HOPS provides a wide range of healing opportunities in safe and peaceful surroundings at Sunderland Friends Meeting House, 30 Roker Park Road.

This lovely building is owned by the Quakers. However, HOPS is not a religious organisation and is open to all.

HOPS has a team of very experienced and highly qualified complementary health practitioners, all registered with the relevant professional body.

The therapies which are currently available under the HOPS scheme are:

Shiatsu; Reiki; Spiritual Healing; Aromatherapy; Indian Head Massage; Reflexology; and Remedial Yoga.

HOPS also organises courses related to healing

e.g. Stress; Yoga; Tai Chi; Energy workshops; Wellbeing and Self-care.

HOPS also offers special "Away Days"

with sample treatments and activities packed into a relaxing and yet stimulating day.

HOPS is especially concerned to help people who might otherwise not be able to access complementary healthcare.

HOPS accepts referrals

from agencies who undertake to pay a third of the treatment fee. These include Sunderland Carers' Centre; and Victim Support.

At present they mostly work for expenses only, as do the volunteers who deal with administration and fundraising. They are now supported by a part time paid coordinator.

HOPS is a not-for-profit enterprise

and has to raise money from many sources: donations, grants, course fees and specially commissioned events and services.
